Tournament draws bowlers
by Dennis Bayley/The Scugog Standard
Classic Aluminum has supported the Port Perry Lawn Bowling Club for many years and its sponsored tournament attracted bowlers from Pickering, Cannington, Oshawa, Whitby, Lindsay, Peterborough and Port Perry. A combined Oshawa/Peterborough triples team was the winner of the event. The skip, Bob Matthews, plays out of Peterborough and the vice, Gord Terwilligar, and lead - Linda Butler - are regular visitors from Oshawa. They were also members of the team that won earlier this season in Port Perry.
A tournament sponsored by Rona was postponed due to inclement weather and will be rescheduled for mid-August.
In triples league play, Port Perry Autoglass still heads the league with 11 points. Vos’ Independent Grocer and Gold Seal Alternators are just one point behind. Also in contention are Edward Jones and Compton Communications. Compton’s team of Lois Dallas, Maureen MacIver and Barb Evans have been in great form recently. The Edward Jones team of MacAllbright, Brigitte Moase and Evelyn Mark has recently posted some high scores.
In The Scugog Standard Pairs League, the team of Bud Heard and Olive Smith have a one-point lead over Dennis Bayley/Evelyn Mark and Phil Scott/Russell Rowe.
