Rik Davie lives in Blackstock with his wife and partner Linda, and their little dog Schrader, and has lived in Scugog Township for 22 years.
He and Linda a life-long resident of Scugog have four sons and five grandchildren.
Rik is the Publisher and Managing Editor of the Scugog Standard
Rik graduated from Durham College with an Honours Degree in Journalism and worked as a police and courts reporter for Hollinger Newspapers at The Durham Post, Thompson Newspapers at The Lindsay Post as well as an on-air reporter for CHEX television before coming to The Port Perry Star in 1997 as a staff reporter/photographer covering police, municipal government and education.
Rik has written for The Toronto Star, Blue Line (the national police magazine) and Education Today (a national educational publication), as well he covered the 60th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion in Normandy in 2004.
Rik and Linda led the core group of people who formed The Scugog Standard five years ago.
The Standard has since grown to become the largest independently owned weekly newspaper in Durham Region and has been awarded national and provincial recognition in the fields of news coverage and advertising design.
Rik’s column, Standard Transmissions is read by over 20,000 people weekly. The Scugog Standard staff have now added 13 special publications to their roster.
Rik and Linda are organizers of:
*The Operation Scugog Food and Toy Drive,
*’Chrome by the Lake’, an annual car show which raises money in support of our local museum
*The Canada Day Veteran’s Parade, and the Port Perry Fair Parade
*They were instrumental in the naming of the Roy E. Carter Park in Blackstock
*They have been long-time supporters of our Port Perry Army Cadets and the Royal Canadian Legion as a whole.
Rik has interviewed three Prime Ministers, two Premiers, four Emmy winners and one Oscar Winner as well as numerous people who think they should be one of the above.
