The hot rods are ready to rumble on Water St.
by Rik Davie/The Scugog Standard

This Saturday (June 26) Port Perry will fill with the sights and sounds of classic cars with the return of The Scugog Standard’s Chrome by the Lake, the fastest growing show of its kind in southern Ontario.

Starting at 8 a.m., vehicles from all over Ontario and beyond will take over Water St. from just north of Curts St. through to the new community square and waterfront area along Port Perry’s Lake Scugog shoreline.

The finest examples of automotive styling from the 1920s through to modern era will shine and rumble alongside vendors of automotive-related products and local merchants displaying their wares.

Joining us as well will be antique fire equipment and police vehicles and Mosport International Speedway’s exotic road racer. For the first time, local racers will bring their iron horses out and there will be music as well as special sale and food items from Water St. merchants.

Among the cars normally only seen on the track will be the Cadillac stocker of local racer Todd Delisle and the Formula Ford Pizza Pizza Canadian Tire NASCAR series driver Caitlin Johnston.

Vos’ Independent Grocer is once again a sponsor of the event and will provide a barbecue with funds going to the Scugog Shores Museum.

The price of admission for cars and their owners is only $5 with all profits from the day going toward the ‘Print Shop Project’ at the museum.

There will be draws and prizes - all donated by local merchants - and music from bygone days will rock the street as thousands of visitors take in the cars, the food and the shopping of Port Perry.

Once again, the sponsor and partner for this event is The Standard’s great friend the Great Blue Heron Charity Casino.

Joining in the sponsorship are Pizza Pizza, Canadian Tire Port Perry, Emmerson Insurance and the Township of Scugog. Always helping out is McDonald’s Port Perry and Crabby Joe’s.

Pineridge Impress has joined us this year to help design T-shirts and caps that will be sold to raise funds for the museum.

There is still vendor space available at only $25 per booth (sorry, no food vendors).

No matter your taste in wild rides - including (left top photo) this radical 31 ‘old school’ street rod under construction by Scugog Island’s Gary Rioux - there’ll be something for ya at this cruisin’ smorgasbord.

There will be judging and prizes as well as trophies in a variety of categories including the popular peoples’ choice award so join us for what has become a Scugog summer tradition at The Scugog Standard’s Chrome by the Lake.
