Chrome by the Lake a good bet!
by Rik Davie/The Scugog Standard
In a little more than a week, the shores of Lake Scugog will once again welcome the owners and fans of classic cars to Chrome by the Lake, the fastest growing show of its kind in southern Ontario.
On June 26, starting at 8 a.m., vehicles from all over Ontario and beyond will take over Water St. from just north of Curts St. through to the new community square and waterfront area along Port Perry’s Lake Scugog shoreline.
The finest examples of automotive styling from the 1920s through to the modern era will shine and rumble alongside vendors of automotive-related products, antique fire equipment and police vehicles and Mosport International Speedway’s exotic road racer.
For the first time, local racers will bring their iron horses out and there will be music as well as special sale and food items from Water St. merchants.
Among the cars normally only seen on the track will be the Cadillac stocker of local racer Todd Delisle and the Pizza Pizza Candian Tire NASCAR series car.
Vos’ Independent Grocer will provide a barbecue with funds going to the Scugog Shores Museum.
The price of admission for cars and their owners is only $5 with all profits from the day going toward the ‘Print Shop Project’ at the museum.
There will be draws and prizes all donated by local merchants and music from bygone days will rock the street as thousands of visitors take in the cars, the food and the shopping of Port Perry.
Once again, the sponsor and partner for this event is The Standard’s great friends at The Great Blue Heron Charity Casino. Joining in with sponsorship are Pizza Pizza, Canadian Tire Port Perry, Emmerson Insurance and the Township of Scugog.
Pineridge Impress has joined the team this year to help design T-shirts and caps that will be sold to raise funds for the museum. There is still vendor space available at only $25 per booth (sorry, no food vendors).
There will be judging and prizes as well as trophies in a variety of categories including the popular peoples’ choice award, so join us for what has become a Scugog summer tradition at The Scugog Standard’s Chrome by the Lake.
