Texted to death
They passed a law in Ontario a while back that you can’t operate hand-held communications and audio devices while you’re driving a car.
Why it would take a law to get the point across is the fodder for a whole different editorial. After all, does anyone argue that you should probably not put on make up or shave while you’re driving? Do we all agree that DVD screens should probably not be allowed in the front seat of a car?
Yet, the law seems to have little effect on many area drivers- despite the fact it was ascertained beyond any reasonable argument many years ago that using such devices causes accidents and deaths.
It continues to do so and people of all ages continue to talk and even text while they drive. If people can’t get the simple fact that it is a dangerous practice to text while driving one has to question their ability to make the kind of decisions involved in operating a two-tonne piece of metal at 100 km per hour on a highway in the first place.
To those who continue to do so, you are dangerous to the rest of us. You’re not special and for the next few weeks at least, expect any cop in North Durham who sees you to write you a ticket for $155. Get it through your heads that you don’t get to decide the longevity of the rest of us!
