Caesarea Regatta is ready to set sail this weekend

The Caesarea Regatta returns for its 82nd year on the August long weekend, and the event’s organizers say there’s still time to help out.

This year’s regatta runs in Caesarea from Friday, July 30 to Saturday, July 31, and features fun for the whole family, including a township-vs.-firefighters basketball match, costume parade, dog show and much more. The regatta will also feature a surf-or-turf dinner on July 31 at the Beacon Marina.

According to organizer Debra Peters, volunteers are especially needed to help with selling tickets, judging races and refereeing volleyball matches.

This year’s event shows signs of being the best ever according to organizers.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Friday, July 30
-6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. - Township versus Firefighters basketball, Putsey Park. (Organizers are looking for two portable basketball nets. Anyone wishing to lend their net is asked to contact Ms. Peters by July 30.)
-8 p.m. to 11 p.m. - Surf or Turf dinner, Beacon Marina.

Saturday, July 31
-10 a.m. - Costume Parade, ages 2 to 4, 5 to 6, 7 to 8, 9 to 11 and group.
Set up at fire hall. Parade leaves fire hall at 10:30 a.m.
and heads to Putsey Park for judging.
-11:30 a.m. - Dog Show in Putsey Park. Many categories.
All dogs must be on a leash. Owners must stoop and scoop.
-1 p.m. - Races at Putsey Park (all ages):
Marathon Men/Ladies, ages 16 and under
Marathon Men/Ladies, ages 17 and over
Running, ages 3 to 4, 5 to 6, 7 to 8, 9 to 10, 11 to 12
Mixed Crawl, ages 3 to 5, with a 13 and over
Find Your Shoe, ages 6 to 8, with a 13 and over
Ball Throw, ages 3 to 4, 5 to 6
Sack Hop, ages 7 to 8, 9 to 10, 11 to 12
Watermelon Eating Contest, ages 9 to 12, 13 to 16, 17+
Shoe Kick, Ladies, ages 13 to 16 and 17+; Men, ages 13 to 16 and 17+
Egg Toss, Partners, 13 and up
Nail Driving Contest, ages 18+ (from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.)
Tug of War, register teams of six
6 p.m. - Volleyball qualifier. Registration and games at Putsey Park.

Sunday, Aug. 1
-10 a.m. to 11 a.m. - Fishing Derby, ages 5 to 13.
-12:30 p.m. - Water races at Marina, swimming for ages 8 and under to 17.
-1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. - Canoe and Kayak races at Marina,
men’s, women’s and group categories.
-3 p.m. - Lake Scugog Championship Sailboat Race.
Pre-register with Phil Brooks at Marina by 2 p.m.
6 p.m. - Mixed Doubles Horseshoes - $5 per person, register at Marina.
6:30 p.m. - Volleyball finals at Putsey Park.
