A weekend of zombies and New Frontiers

The Kent Farndale Gallery at the Scugog Memorial Public Library will be hosting an opening reception this Saturday, Feb. 4,,at 2 p.m. for the exhibit ‘Dead of Winter’ by Dave Trant and Andres Musta. These two artists team up to bring an extra chill to the coldest days of the year, showcasing quirky, macabre and stylized art inspired by the undead. Sounds intriguing! The exhibit runs until March 1.
_The Scugog Arts Resource Centre Gallery on Perry St. in Port Perry is hosting an artists’ reception on Feb. 4, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., for ‘New Frontiers: Emerging Artists Exhibition.’ The exhibit showcases new, exciting work created by young artists from across Durham. The show runs until Feb. 25.
_It’s Superbowl Sunday this weekend and a TV will be on for intermission during the ‘Bruce Gorrie Quartet’ at Jesters Court in Port Perry. Relax and enjoy the mellow sounds of Bruce’s tenor sax, flute and sopran, with Rob Buger on guitar, Doug Matthews on bass and Steve Kastaschuk on drums. Join them at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5. There is a $15 music charge for this event.
_Film Nights at the Scugog Memorial Public Library are gaining in popularity and it’s no wonder. Screenings feature top quality films for $2 in the comfortable setting of the Rotary Community Room, with state of the art audio visual equipment. The next film is ‘The Tree of Life’ on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m. This film is rated 14A and tickets are available during the week prior to the screening at the library.
_‘Voice on Fire Returns’ with Karina Bray. This evening of arias and art songs at the Port Perry United Church on Feb. 17 is an evening not to be missed. _For one night only, Feb. 25, the Borelians Community Theatre will present a dramatic reading of Agatha Christie’s classic courtroom thriller, ‘Witness for the Prosecution,’ at Town Hall 1873. Set in England during the 1950s, this play was a hit on the London and Broadway stages for many years. Tickets are $10 and are available at the Town Hall 1873 box office, open Wednesdays to Fridays 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., by calling 905-985-8181 or on-line at www.townhall1873.ca.
